Oriental poppies (Papaver orientale) are linked to the Greek goddess Demeter, who, in her grief over the abduction of her daughter Persephone, is said to have gifted the poppy as a symbol of rest and solace. The vibrant red petals, representing sleep and death, were believed to offer comfort to those mourning. Today, these flowers still evoke themes of loss and renewal, rooted in their ancient mythological significance.
